Cenotes del Alux is a project promoting sustainability and ecotourism to remote cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula. Our main goal is to donate eco-friendly restrooms to handpicked cenotes and help them become more sustainable while promoting healthy eco-tourism. Half of the NFTs are for creators, artists and early investors, and the other 50% is for the cenotes we select. In the two years we have worked on the project, we have chosen cenote Santa Cruz, in the surrounding area of Tizimin, Yucatan. We have been providing them with the assistance they require to thrive and overcome challenges in the eco-tourism space by donating the first two dry restrooms with showers. Each dry toilet is estimated to save 2,000 gallons of water per month and produce around 17 cubic feet of rich organic matter every 1-2 years as well as prevent this contaminants to reach the cenote and better the water quality.

It has been a slow but steady ride since 2021…
First we took our time to evaluate our reach to these communities and our possible impact within. We hired different artists and had a contest to design our base character.
By teaming up with ilustrator Sergio Neri, our base character or Alux #1, the first of the first is born.
We started working on the props, video and original music to accompany our NFT.
We have finished building two ecological toilets in cenote Santa Cruz. We have worked together with its community for promoting a sustainable tourism.
We plan on launching the collection during the winter of 2023.

Illustrator
Originally inspired and illustrated by mexican artist Sergio Neri and based on the 90s comic “La Gruta del Alux,” our base character, the Alux, has taken various forms. From ancient mayan rituals and legends to famous pop culture props, around 100 Aluxes were drawn individually to select the best props and characteristics we want to showcase, making an international collaboration between different artists and cultures to portray our very own version of this mythical creature who cares for our natural resorces.
